Howdy language learners!
In this post, I'd like to discuss how you can practice English in a non-English country. Please leave your ideas as comments below.
I know that it can be very difficult to practice English in your home country. Of course, that's why I am offering online tutoring services. (Just email me at englishispersonal@gmail.com as I would really like to help you.)
I understand how hard it can be because I am studying Japanese in an English speaking country. Luckily, I have the chance to practice with a native Japanese speaker. I'm very lucky! This is my first tip, try to find a native English speaker who you can talk to. How can you do this? How can you practice other ways? You don't know? We can fix that! Here are some tips.
1) Join a language exchange
2) Visit the English part of your city, (if there is one).
3) Join an online chat group. There are many and they can be about many types of topics. A Google search gave me many possibilities.
4) Watch movies, YouTube videos, or videos from other sources. Use subtitles in your in your first language (if the speaking is English) or use English subtitles (if the speaking is your language).
5) Record yourself speaking and then listen to it. You will be able to notice mistakes (if there are mistakes) and more easily correct them.
6) Talk to a professional tutor who is qualified to help you improve quickly. A good tutor is kind, flexible, respectful, knowledgable, and prepared. If your tutor doesn't have these qualities, then you might want to look for another one. Don't waste your time or money.
7) Listen to English language music. You'd be amazed how much this can help. These days, I'm listening to Luke Doucet, The Tragically Hip, David Bowie, Ben Caplan, The Weakerthans (This one is about my home city.), the Raconteurs, and more. I really love music!
Most importantly, don't be shy! Make mistakes. I always do when I'm practicing Japanese and that's okay!
We can fix that!
