Why is English so confusing sometimes?

Hello to all you motivated langauge learners!

In the last post, I showed you some of the unavoidable irregular words in English. Many of my students ask me, "Matthew. Why is English so confusing?" There are many answers, but the simple answer is that the langauge of English is a mix of many languages.

Modern English, the English we speak now, is old, but not very old. However, English as a language is very old. It has been changing and changing for many, many, many years.

If you are interested in this, please watch this video. The information in it suprised me too. The speaking is fast, but the animations are very clear, so it is pretty easy to understand.

Maybe, by watching this video called 'A History of English in 10 Minutes', you will learn that sometimes English is just difficult. You are not stupid or unable to learn. English sometimes is easy to learn, and is sometimes just hard to learn. This learning is not changed by your ability.

If you are losing motivation, we can fix that!
