Suggestions for Learning and Simple Questions to Ask Yourself

Howdy once again language explorers!

I hope you all enjoyed the video I posted. I plan on doing a few more in the future. If you want me to talk about a specific English topic, please leave me a comment. I would be very happy to help!

Now, let's move to the topic of this post.

When you decide to study English or decide to continue studying English, you should ask yourself these questions so that you can organize your learning. Your answers can also help you find a good teacher or tutor. A good teacher or tutor will ask you these questions before beginning teaching.

Here are the questions:

1) Why do I want to learn English?

- This question will encourage you to focus your learning. If your reason is for school, then academic skills are needed. If your reason is for travel, then specific socializing vocabulary and questions are needed. If you want to study for work reasons, then job specific vocabulary and more formal phrases are needed.

2) What goals do I have?

- Please set short term goals (you can achieve them in less than a month) and long term goals (you can achieve them in months or even years). This will also help you plan your learning.

Also, if you want to begin or continue learning English, here is a suggestion:

1) Be consistent.

- This means that you should speak English as much as you can and speak English everyday. You can even talk to yourself and make up conversations! (I do this to practice Japanese everyday as I walk to work.) When you are learning anything new, you must practice it often, or you will lose it. Your brain is actually changing when you learn something new. You want to create strong 'roads' in your brain.

- Also, if you studied English abroad and then went back home, you may need a tutor if you do not have English friends to speak with.

If you'd like a trial lesson with me, please email me at englishispersonal@gmail.com or leave a comment on this blog. You can also read this post that talks about my qualifications or this post that talks about how to prepare for tutoring. I will ask you the above questions during our trial lesson. Your answer will help me plan our lessons and will help you plan more goals!

If your learning is disorganized, we can fix that!
